Petrol and battery chainsaws

What is the difference between a petrol and a battery chainsaw

A battery chainsaw is quiet, starts instantly and needs no fuel or engine servicing, so it is well suited to garden work and cutting firewood close to home. EGO Power+ 56-volt chainsaws are extremely powerful, and the same battery also powers other EGO tools. A petrol chainsaw delivers plenty of power and does not depend on charging, so it is the right choice for felling larger trees and long working days in the forest.

Is a battery chainsaw suitable for cutting firewood?

Yes. Powerful battery chainsaws, such as the EGO CS1810E and CS2000E and the STIHL MSA 220 and MSA 300, handle cutting firewood well. For longer jobs, it's worth bringing a spare battery.

How to choose a saw

• For garden work, cutting branches and sawing firewood at home, light saws are suitable, such as the STIHL MS 162 and MS 182, battery chainsaws STIHL MSA 60 and MSA 80, and EGO CS1410E and CS1610E.
• For regular firewood cutting and felling medium-diameter trees, the STIHL MS 212, MS 231 and MS 251 and the EGO CS1810E and CS2000E are suitable.
• For professional forestry work, the STIHL MS 261, MS 362, MS 462 and MS 500i, and the battery chainsaws STIHL MSA 220 and MSA 300, are designed for the job.
• For tree care, the top-handle saws STIHL MSA 161 T and MSA 220 TC-O and the cordless pruners STIHL GTA 26 and GTA 40 are suitable.

How long a guide bar should you choose for a saw?

The guide bar should be somewhat longer than the diameter of the tree being cut. For jobs around the home, a 30 to 40 cm guide bar is usually enough; for felling large trees, guide bars of 45 cm and longer are used.

Saw chains, guide bars and safety equipment

We have matching saw chains, guide bars and chain oil for your saw in our accessories range. When working with a chainsaw, always wear protective equipment: you'll find protective trousers, a safety helmet and gloves in the safety equipment.

Maintenance and chain sharpening

The Saemeister workshop carries out warranty and after-warranty service for petrol and battery chainsaws, and sharpens saw chains.
