1. Sprayer type and area of use

Garden sprayers can be divided into different categories according to their intended use:

• Carry-bag sprayers – these are usually smaller and suitable for smaller gardens or specific jobs, such as spraying orchards and vegetable gardens. These sprayers are carried by hand and are also suitable for hard-to-reach places.

• Backpack sprayers – these are larger and more comfortable than carry-bag sprayers, as they distribute the weight evenly across your back, allowing you to work for longer periods. Suitable for larger gardens or when large areas need to be treated.

• Sprayers with a handle and tap – usually intended for professional use, for example to protect gardens or fields. These sprayers are convenient for covering large areas.

• Powered sprayers (pressure sprayers) – these are suitable for spraying large areas quickly and evenly. These sprayers are high-powered and the choice depends primarily on the size of your garden and your needs.

2. Capacity and working range

• For small gardens a sprayer with a smaller capacity (e.g. 5–10 litres) may be sufficient. These are lighter and easier to handle.
• For larger gardens it is worth choosing a sprayer with a larger capacity (e.g. 15–20 litres or more) to ensure a sufficient working range without needing constant refilling.

3. Motor and power types

• Electric sprayers are convenient, as they are easy to use and do not require much maintenance. Electric power is suitable for smaller areas and when you do not want noisy engines.
• Petrol-engine sprayers offer more power and are suitable for treating larger areas where a long working range is needed. However, they are also heavier and noisier.
• Cordless sprayers are a good choice for those who need mobility but do not want to worry about a petrol engine or cables. These are suitable for small and medium-sized gardens.

4. Sprayer range and pressure

• The pressure of the sprayer determines how far and how high the spray reaches. If you need to reach taller plants or trees, you should choose a sprayer with an extended range.
• As a general rule, higher pressure ensures a longer and more accurate spray.

5. Ease of use and ergonomics

• Lightness and balance: The weight and balance of the sprayer are important to avoid fatigue, especially during prolonged use. If the sprayer is too heavy, it can make the workload harder.
• Adjustable nozzles: Look for sprayers with adjustable nozzles so that you can choose a suitable spray pattern (for example a jet or a mist) depending on the type of substance being sprayed and the location.

6. Quality and durability

Choose a high-quality sprayer with a strong, corrosion-resistant construction. Instead of plastic sprayers, it is worth considering metal components, as they are more durable and longer-lasting.

7. Maintenance and cleaning

Choose a sprayer that is easy to clean, especially if you use various chemicals or fertilisers. Some models are fitted with special cleaning systems that help prevent blockages.
