Inverter generators for backup power, summer cottages and work

An inverter generator produces electricity at a stable voltage, which is also suitable for computers, televisions, fridges and other sensitive devices. It is quieter and more economical than a conventional generator because the engine speed adjusts to the load. The Saemeister range includes Briggs & Stratton inverter generators with maximum outputs from 2.4 to 6.5 kW.

How to choose a generator's output

Add up the power ratings of the devices you want to use at the same time and leave a margin. Devices with motors, such as fridges, water pumps and compressors, need several times more power when starting than when running. Maximum output is intended for short-term loads; for continuous operation, go by the rated output.

  • Briggs & Stratton P2400: maximum output 2.4 kW, rated output 1.8 kW, run time at 25% load up to 8 hours, noise level 58 dB. Suitable for camping, summer cottages and powering smaller devices.
  • Briggs & Stratton P4500: maximum output 4.5 kW, rated output 3.7 kW, run time at 25% load up to 16 hours, noise level 61 dB. Suitable for backup power for a house and for power tools.
  • Briggs & Stratton Q6500: maximum output 6.5 kW, rated output 5 kW, run time at 25% load up to 14 hours, noise level 66 dB. Suitable for heavier loads and building sites.

A generator for power cuts

Devices can be plugged directly into the generator's sockets. If you want to power your home's electrical system with a generator, have an electrician install a changeover switch that isolates the generator from the mains. This is necessary for your own safety and for the safety of people working on the power grid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an inverter generator and a conventional generator?

An inverter generator uses electronics to convert the current produced by the engine into a stable output, which makes it suitable for sensitive devices. At lower loads, the engine runs at lower revs, making the generator quieter and more economical.

How long does a generator run on one tank?

At 25% load, the Briggs & Stratton P2400 runs for up to 8 hours, the P4500 for up to 16 hours and the Q6500 for up to 14 hours. At higher loads, the run time is shorter.

Can a generator be used indoors?

No. A petrol generator must only be used outdoors in a well-ventilated place, as the exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide.

More expensive models can also be bought on finance.
