What is the difference between a snow blower and a snow thrower

In everyday speech, both names are often used for the same machine. In a single-stage snow thrower, one rotor collects the snow and throws it out, so the machine is light and suited to fresh snow and moderate snow depths. In a two-stage snow blower, a serrated auger gathers the snow and a separate impeller throws it a long way, so it can also cope with deep, wet snow and snow piled up by snowploughs.

How to choose the working width of a snow blower

• For steps, patios and narrow paths, a cordless snow shovel with a working width of around 30 cm is ideal, such as the STIGA ST 300 or the EGO Multi-Tool snow shovel attachment.
• For a typical home driveway and yard, a cordless snow thrower with a working width of around 50 cm is suitable, such as the STIGA ST 700e or the EGO SNT2120E, which throws snow up to 14 metres.
• For larger plots and heavy snow, a two-stage snow blower is the right choice, such as the STIGA ST 3256 P to ST 6272 P TRAC (working width 56 to 72 cm), the Briggs & Stratton Elite 1527 or the EGO SNT2400E two-stage cordless snow blower.

Choosing between a cordless and a petrol snow blower

A cordless snow thrower starts at the push of a button even in a hard frost, runs quietly and needs no fuel or oil changes. EGO Power+ 56-volt snow blowers are very powerful, and the same battery also runs other EGO garden tools. A petrol snow blower is the right choice when the area to be cleared is large and there is a lot of snow. Most STIGA petrol snow blowers have a 230 V electric starter in addition to the recoil starter, which makes starting in the cold easy, and the TRAC models run on tracks, which gives better grip on slopes and ice.

Can a snow blower be used on a gravel drive?

The housing of a two-stage snow blower can be raised off the ground with adjustable skid shoes, so as a rule it is also suitable for gravel drives. The rotor of a single-stage snow thrower reaches almost down to the ground and is designed mainly for tarmac, paving and other hard surfaces.

How far does a snow blower throw snow?

Depending on the model, the machines in the Saemeister range throw snow up to 15 metres. The discharge direction can be adjusted so that the snow goes where you want it.

When is the right time to buy a snow blower?

Demand for snow blowers peaks with the first snowfalls in November and in January. In autumn there is time to look through the models and choose at your leisure.
