The STIHL AMK 112 S mulch kit fits T4 series ride-on mowers with a 110 cm cutting width, for example the RT 4112 Z. The kit contains a mulch plug that closes the discharge channel and directs the shredded grass back onto the lawn.
Mulching pushes the shredded grass clippings back down close to the grass roots. Mulched grass breaks down quickly and returns up to 25% of the required nitrogen to the soil.
Rules for successful mulching
- Follow the 1/3 rule: only cut a third of the grass height at a time. Grass that is too long creates smothering clumps.
- Mow frequently: during fast growth periods, mow more often. If the grass is too long, use the grass box or mow in two stages.
- Choose dry weather: wet grass clumps together, blocking air and light from reaching the soil and encouraging moss.
- Keep the blade sharp: a sharp cut keeps the lawn healthy; a blunt blade tears the grass and makes it more susceptible to disease.
