Saemeister offers nearly 50 lawn tractors in a price range of roughly 2,000 to 20,000 euros. The brands are STIGA, STIHL, EGO Power+, Simplicity and Ferris, with cutting widths from 66 to 132 centimetres. Models held in stock can be viewed in person at our Tartu showroom at Aardla 25, which is also home to our service workshop.

How to choose a lawn tractor

Lawn size determines the cutting width

The cutting width decides how quickly the job is done. For a plot of up to half a hectare, 84 to 98 centimetres is usually enough; from half a hectare to two hectares, look at models 100 to 110 centimetres wide; and for a larger area or landscaping work, machines 122 to 132 centimetres wide. With narrow gates and densely planted gardens, the overall width of the machine matters too, not just the cutting width: our most compact model is the STIGA Combi 166 with a 66 centimetre cutting width.

Grass collector, side discharge or mulching

A lawn tractor with a grass collector picks the clippings up as it mows and suits a manicured lawn where clippings should not be visible. Side discharge suits a large area that is mowed less often and where the grass grows long. Mulching returns finely chopped grass to the lawn as fertiliser. Petrol or battery

There are 31 petrol models and 9 battery models in the range. Petrol gives a long continuous running time and suits a large area where refuelling is easier than recharging. A battery lawn tractor is considerably quieter, produces no exhaust fumes, needs no oil changes and starts instantly: these are the EGO Power+ models TR3801E-B and TR4201E, and the STIGA Swift 372e, GYRO 500e and GYRO 700e. Battery running time depends on the length of the grass and the cutting height, so for a very large area allow for spare batteries or a charging break.

Hydrostatic transmission or manual gearbox

Most of our lawn tractors, 22 models, have a hydrostatic transmission: the speed is adjusted smoothly with a pedal and there are no gears to change. That is more comfortable in a garden full of obstacles, where you stop and change direction often. Models with a manual gearbox are cheaper and simpler in construction.

When a zero-turn mower is worth buying

A zero-turn mower turns on the spot, which means no uncut strips are left around trees, flower beds and posts, and there is less tidying up with a trimmer. Brands in the Saemeister range

STIGA is represented by the Combi, Tornado, Estate and Raider Park series, which cover everything from an ordinary garden to a large property. STIHL lawn tractors RT 4112, RT 5097 and RT 6127 ZL are made for a large lawn. EGO Power+ lawn tractors running on the 56 volt battery platform are exceptionally innovative, powerful and practical. Simplicity and Ferris are American built machines with a sturdy construction, and the Ferris commercial models IS600Z, ISX800Z and ISX2200Z are made for daily landscaping work.

What does a lawn tractor cost

The most affordable lawn tractors in our range start at around 2,000 euros and are machines for ordinary use. Most models for a home garden fall between 2,500 and 6,000 euros. Professional commercial zero-turn mowers start at around 9,000 euros and reach 20,000 euros. The price difference comes not only from the cutting width, but also from the transmission, the strength of the frame, the comfort of the seat and how many operating hours the machine will take in a year.

Frequently asked questions

What cutting width do I need?

A rule of thumb: for a plot of up to 0.5 hectares a width of 84 to 98 centimetres, for 0.5 to 2 hectares 100 to 110 centimetres, and for a larger area 122 centimetres or more. Check the narrowest passages in your garden as well.

Will a battery lawn tractor cope with long grass?

It will, but the running time is limited by battery capacity. If the lawn is large or the grass grows long, allow for a charging break or buying spare batteries.

What is the difference between a lawn tractor and a zero-turn mower?

A lawn tractor is steered with a steering wheel and turns like a car. A zero-turn mower turns on the spot, which is faster and more precise around obstacles, but takes getting used to and costs more.
